Birr Church House Renovation

This adaptive reuse transforms a 1901 rural church into a contemporary residence while preserving the defining structure of the original building. Masonry walls, stained glass, pointed arch windows, and timber roof framing remain, allowing the spatial character of the church to continue shaping the interior.

A new glass atrium replaces the former apse, bringing landscape and daylight deep into the nave. Contemporary living spaces are inserted within the historic envelope, where the scale, light, and vertical rhythm of the original architecture remain the primary experience of the home. The intervention is completed with new plane glass set within the original apertures and landscaped garden.
